Butler County Emergency Management has completed an extensive update of the 2009 Hazard Mitigation Plan. The Butler County Hazard Mitigation Planning Committee analyzed the overall risk and impact from past hazards on area residents, property, and critical infrastructure. That information was considered in evaluating and updating past mitigation policies and initiatives to prevent future disaster losses, in particular from natural hazards. The project was coordinated by Butler County Emergency Management with technical assistance provided by a consulting firm. The Hazard Mitigation Planning Committee was composed of representatives from each political jurisdiction and special district within the county. The Kansas Dept of Agriculture, Division of Water Resources, the Kansas State Forestry Dept, and the Kansas Division of Emergency Management also participated in the planning process.
